What do YouTube comments reveal about how your music is actually being heard?
YouTube comments are some of the most detailed, least-used fan data an artist has. Music Data Analysis Lab reads through them and turns them into findings — not just what people are saying, but what that reveals about how a song is being heard. Below are three analyses we've published in full.
Plastic Love
In the top 500 comments we analyzed, most of the conversation isn't in Japanese at all.
76.2%of the 500 comments analyzed contain no Japanese text.
Shinunoga E-Wa
Fujii Kaze's “Shinunoga E-Wa” is sung entirely in Japanese. Its comment section tells a different story.
69%of the 500 comments analyzed use Latin/English script, compared to 28% in Japanese.
Bon Jovi × Bon Odori
A video pairing Bon Jovi's “Livin' On A Prayer” with a traditional Japanese Bon Odori dance caught on in Japan. We read the comments to see who was watching, and what they wanted.
8.4%of commenters explicitly say they hope Jon Bon Jovi himself sees the video.
